Does Quiz Press run on computers with Microsoft Windows Vista?
Yes. Quiz Press works great on Vista.
I don't want Quiz Press to give the student guidance as to whether a particular answer is correct. Can I turn off that feature?
Yes. Choose "Quiz Settings" in the "File" menu and select the "General" tab. Switch the test type from "Practice Test" simply to "Test". This change has the added benefit of not allowing students to correct answers after they have received their final score.
Can I add "Check all that apply" type questions where the user may need to specify more than one multiple choice answer as correct? It is easy to simulate this in Quiz Press by making your text read something like the following:
How can I change the font and style options for fill In the blank or cloze style questions? The styling options are disabled.
Although selection level styling is not currently available for these question types, it is possible to affect the overall appearance of these questions by modifying the default font and size in the application preferences.
When exporting to the web, I need to separate the html file from the rest of the quiz content (flash file (.swf), multimedia folder, and .xsr file). How do I do this?
Alter the html in the generated index.html file. Add a parameter called 'base' to the object and embed tags. This parameter needs to point to the folder which holds the .swf file. Your other files must be grouped with the .swf. For more information about the 'base' parameter, read this TechNote from Adobe.
What is Flash Video? Can't I Use Quicktime, or AVI files?
Flash Video is a video format promoted by Adobe (formerly Macromedia). It is the format used in Google Video. You can convert Quicktime and AVI movie files to Flash Video using various 3rd party tools. Here is a brief list of some of those options (Note: We do not warrant or endorse any of these products)
My audio files won't play, what is the problem?
Quiz Press uses Flash 7 to play audio. Flash 7 can only playback MP3 files that use the Mpeg-1 format. MP3 Files that use the Mpeg-2 format will not work. If you aren't sure, use a program like iTunes to see what the format is. To work, it should report the following "Format: MPEG-1, Layer 3". You may be able to convert the file to the MPEG-1 format using 3rd party tools.
My audio files play but in the wrong pitch. How do I get rid of the chipmunk effect?
Quiz Press uses Flash 7 to play audio. Flash 7 has a problem playing files that are encoded at a rate that is not a multiple of 11.025 kHz. This effect is sometimes called the chipmunk effect since the file is played at double speed. To avoid this, encode MP3s at 11.025 kHz, 22.050 kHz, 44.100 kHz etc.
Can I use Adobe (formerly Macromedia) Contribute to link to a Quiz?
Yes, but (as far as we can tell) you will need to upload the quiz folder (the one you made using "File"->"Make Quiz") using an FTP program. Now in Contribute just add a new link, and set the web address in the "Browse" tab. You will want to point it to the index.html file of the folder you uploaded by FTP.
What is an FTP program?
FTP programs will allow you to upload your quizzes to the web. Some programs just do FTP, others are website creation tools but have FTP built-in as an added benefit.
Here is a brief list of some of those options (Note: We do not warrant or endorse any of these products)
